garlic loaf

Do you have a craving for garlic bread? The most common way would be to spread some garlic spread onto a slice of bread and toast the bread in an oven.

If you do not fancy the taste of the butter/margarine in the garlic spread and would like something where the taste of garlic is more subtle, why not try baking a garlic loaf?

INGREDIENTS

1 cup warm water
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp milk powder
1 tbsp castor sugar
1 12 tsp salt
1 1/2 tbsp dried parsley flakes
3 tsp minced garlic
3 cups bread flour
2 tsp active dry yeast
METHOD

1. Add the warm water, butter, milk powder, castor sugar, salt, dried parsley flakes and minced garlic to the bucket of the breadmaker machine.

2. Add the bread flour, making sure that the flour covers the entire liquid.

3. Add the active dry yeast.

4. Place the bucket in the breadmaker machine and select "dough" cycle.

5. When the cycle has been completed, roll out the dough onto a floured board using a floured rolling pin until the entire board is covered with the dough.

6. Lightly flour the palms of your hands and shape the dough onto the shape of a loaf and place inside a greased and floured loaf pan.

7. Cover the loaf pan with a moist cloth and leave the dough to rise for 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.

8. Bake in an oven preheated to 200 degrees celsius for 45 minutes.

TIP

If you prefer the breadmaker machine to knead and bake the bread, select the "basic white" cycle. For the loaf colour, select "medium".
