garlic and potato bread

This bread that I baked was one of those "accidents". I only realised that I had run out of butter after I had already placed some ingredients in the bucket of the breadmaker machine. Rummaging through my refrigerator, I found some garlic spread that I had made recently and I decided to use the garlic spread in place of the butter. As it turned out, the garlic spread complemented the mixed herbs and the bread was very flavourful.

INGREDIENTS

1 cup water
3 tbsp garlic spread
1 egg (lightly beaten)
3/4 cup mashed potato dry mix
1 tbsp castor sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp dried mixed herbs / Italian herbs
3 cups bread flour
2 1/2 tsp instant dry yeast

METHOD (fully automated)

1. Place all the ingredients in the bucket of your breadmaker machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer of the breadmaker.

2. Place the bucket in the breadmaker machine and select "bread" cycle and medium crust.

3. Start the cycle and remove the bread when the cycle has been completed.

METHOD (semi-automated)

1. Place all the ingredients in the bucket of your breadmaker machine except for the bread flour and yeast.

2. Add the bread flour, making sure that all the wet ingredients are totally covered.

3. Add the yeast.

4. Place the bucket in the breadmaker machine and select "dough" cycle. Start the cycle.

5. When the cycle has been completed, turn the dough onto a floured board. Using floured hands, knead the dough 5 times.

6. Place the dough in a loaf pan that has been greased and lined with baking paper.

7. Cover the loaf pan with a damp cloth and leave for 1 hour or until the dough has doubled in size.

8. Bake in an oven preheated to 190 degrees celsius for 30 minutes.
